Santa Buddies - In Search of Santa Paw (original title: Santa Buddies ) appeared in Germany on December 3, 2009 and was broadcast directly on television. It is the fourth part of the spin-off series Air Buddies of Walt Disney , in turn, on the Air Bud based film series. The film was produced for the DVD market.

In 2010, the prequel Santa Paws Big Christmas Adventure was released and in 2012 the sequel Santa Paw 2 - The Christmas Puppies .

action

Santa Claus and his dog Santa Paw look worriedly at the Christmas icicle, which is starting to melt as fewer and fewer children and puppies believe in Christmas . If the Christmas icicle continues to melt, there will soon be no more Christmas.

At the same time, Little Paw, the son of Santa Paw, just wants to be a normal puppy . He finds life boring in the North Pole , where everything revolves around Christmas. On Santa Claus' “naughty list” he discovers the puppy Budderball, who ate the turkey of the family he lives with for Thanksgiving . So it occurs to him that Budderball can definitely show him what makes a normal puppy.

The focus is now on the Buddies family in Fernfield, ( USA ), who are talking about the fact that they don't believe in Christmas and that the “naughty list” is just an invention so that living beings on earth would remain good.

Before Little Paw makes his way to Budderball and his siblings, he visits the Christmas Icicle and wishes that Christmas would just go away. Shortly after Little Paw snuck into Santa Claus' post bus to get to Fernfield, a large chunk of Christmas icicle breaks off, causing the reindeer to suddenly feel weak and sick. Shortly after Little Paw's arrival in Fernfield and at Budderball, the latter introduces the newcomer to his siblings. Little Paw visits all the buddies at home one by one to find out how a normal puppy lives. As a result, he gets all buddies in trouble: Budderball, for example, is accused of eating the freshly baked cookies, even though Little Paw was the culprit. At B-Dawg, Little Paw breaks a vase while doing breakdancing . After Mudbud showed Kleine Pfote for the first time how to roll around in the dirt, he then shows him his home. Though Mudhud forbade him to shake, Little Paw does just that when his fur itches. The living room, which is almost completely white, is then littered with splashes of dirt. With his magical collar, however, the little dog transforms them into Christmas symbols. Mudbud, however, is punished and has to wear a protective suit all day. At Rosebud, too, Little Paw creates confusion and uses magic to transform Rosebud's Christmas outfit, which he finds hideous. Finally, Buddha's meditation statue transforms Little Paw into a snowman.

Because of these incidents, the buddies want Little Paw to leave them. In a conversation, however, it becomes clear that Little Paw did not want to cause them any problems and that they are not innocent of what happened themselves. When Little Paw overhears part of the buddies' conversation and hears what they are saying about him, he sneaks away sadly. Mr. Stan Cruge, the animal catcher, is able to capture Little Paw and bring it to the shelter . There, Little Paw meets a puppy named Mini, who dreams of a Christmas miracle. Belief in it is the only hope that the captured pups have. Mini dreams of having a nice home and a nice owner. A song performed by Mini shows Little Paw what the real meaning of Christmas is.

Meanwhile, Little Paw is missing at the North Pole. The elf Eli and the elf dog Eddy go in search of the little dog in Fernfield. Eddy meets Budderball and explains to the buddies that he absolutely has to find Little Paw. When they see Mr. Cruge from afar, it seems likely that he caught Little Paw. In the animal shelter they find what they are looking for and free Little Paw. However, Mr. Cruge catches them and recaptures some of the dogs they have released - Eddy is among them. Mr. Cruge works as a dog catcher because as a little boy he always wanted a dog for Christmas, but because of his mother's allergy he never had it. Then he stopped believing in Christmas. The elf dog Eddy succeeds in getting Stan Cruge to believe in Christmas again.

Since the magical post bus that the elves came with no longer has enough energy to drive back to the North Pole, Eli comes up with the idea of using the magic of Little Paw's collar to make a decorative sled fly. However, there are no reindeer to pull the sleigh in Fernfield . Therefore, Rosebud suggests that the buddies pull the sleigh to the North Pole, where they can also find out immediately that Santa Claus really exists. While the buddies bring Little Paw back to the North Pole, the elf Eli succeeds in making another person start believing in Christmas again and convey this to other people. As a result, the Christmas icicle does not melt any further and, on the contrary, even begins to grow again, which leads Santa Claus to remark that the North Pole is "in business" again. Eli and Eddy now also have to go back to the North Pole to help Santa Claus finish the presents for Christmas. Due to the growing icicle, the magical post bus now has enough energy to get back to the North Pole and even brings many more letters to Santa Claus. Before that, however, they find out that Mr. Cruge has an understanding of the animals in the shelter and wants to pass them on to loving owners free of charge.

Since the strength of the egg is not yet sufficient for the reindeer to pull the sled, the buddies and Little Paw have to bring the presents to the children and puppies. But this is only possible because the buddies really believe in Christmas again. B-Dawg, who is in the foremost position in the sleigh team, even magically gets a red glowing nose, which serves to show the right way. But the children who own the buddies are starting to believe in Christmas again and want their puppies to come home again.

Mr. Cruge finds the letter from little Mikey at the animal shelter, who is longing for a dog. So he secretly brings the little Mini to the boy, but is seen by Mikey's father. So on Christmas Day he appears with his son at Mr. Cruge's and invites him to Christmas dinner. The Christmas sleigh, which is on its trip around the world with the buddies and Kleine Pfote to distribute presents, also comes by Mini and her new family and Kleine Pfote conjures up a wonderful Christmas dinner on the table with its magical collar as a thank you for showing Mini what the real meaning of Christmas is.

Now that the Christmas cones are big enough again, Santa Claus and Santa Paw can pick up Little Paw in Fernfield and the buddies can go back to their families. Before that, Santa Claus gives them real Christmas hats and Little Paw receives a real Christmas costume. Santa Claus realizes that with the help of Little Paw, Christmas has a good chance of surviving in the future. Santa paw is very proud of his son. But the buddies also thank Kleine Pfote for the great adventure and for the fact that they can now believe in Christmas again. They also put him in the B-Dog gang. Santa Paw invites you to help again next Christmas, which makes the buddies very happy. At the end, all of the residents of Fernfield, including the dogs, sing "Silent Night" in front of the town's Christmas tree .
