action

On a farm in Fernfield, Bartleby is celebrating his twelfth birthday with his grandpa Marvin. When Bartleby opens a new dog food bag for his Golden Retriever puppy Budderball, he finds an orange toy ring in it as an advertising reference for the feed manufacturer. With that he finally has the last of the five power rings he collects for his comic adventures. His grandfather gave him issue 1 of the comic book series about "Captain Canine" as a birthday present, which he is currently very fascinated by. According to this story, the five magical rings were sent to Earth from the distant galaxy Ispiron to keep them safe from the enemy, Commander Drex.

In the afternoon, Sam, Billy, Alice and Pete come to Bartleby's birthday party. For the sake of sake, they dressed up as superheroes and dressed up their puppies appropriately. According to the comic, they want to play superheroes together and start a treasure hunt. When the buddies search for the treasure, they discover the place in the barn where the real rings from Ispiron were lost in 1985 . The pups assume this is the treasure they're supposed to be looking for and dig it up completely. The rings then connect to the puppies and everyone now has a collar of a different color. Bartleby wonders about the buddies' new necklace and suspects Budderball to have secretly collected it, because his rings are all still there. Bartleby reads to his friends from the comic book, which insiders say the story is based on real events and Captain Megasis in the form of a dog named "Canine" is still looking for the rings today. Since landing on earth, he would have joined a person named Jack, who would have recorded the story in comic books. Bartleby and his friends have no idea that the insiders are right and that Captain Canine is now on his way to Fernfield with Jack due to the activation of the rings. But the opponent Drex has also received the signals and is pursuing them.

The buddies Rosebud, Budderball, Mudbud, B-Dawg and Buddha notice that the rings have given them mysterious powers: psychic abilities, super strength, super speed, super elasticity and invisibility. The pups decide to use these new powers to do good and help the people of Fernfield. So they save a cat from a tree and catch two intruders in a candy store. The next day a building burns and the buddies try to save a little girl. Although they try, they cannot do it alone and Captain Canine comes to their aid. He explains to them that these rings and the stories in the comics are all real. Unfortunately, he cannot easily take over the rings as they have bonded with the pups and enhance their natural abilities. So he starts teaching them how to protect themselves and against Drex.

Drex now ends up on the farm and takes the form of a pig because he thinks it is a human. Grandpa Marvin is shocked to see a pig talking and alerts Sheriff Dan. He arrests the "pig" after it causes chaos in the city with a stolen car. Meanwhile, the children discover the spaceship and hear about their pups' heroism in the news. Now they realize that the comics are actually real. They rush to Sheriff Dan, but Drex has already swapped bodies with him and is taking the children hostage to find out where the buddies with the rings are. He locks the children in the barn, where they try to find a solution to their problem through the comics.

Drex activates a meteor with a targeted beam so that it is supposed to destroy Fernfield. Captain Canine attacks him, but is defeated. So the buddies combine their superpowers and compete alone against Drex. However, they cannot win the bitter fight and have to hand over the rings to their opponent as he demands. But Bartleby only gives Drex the toy rings and since Drex doesn't see through the trick, he is satisfied and leaves town with his spaceship. Only now does he notice that he does not have the real magic rings, but since the meteor is approaching he can no longer prevent a collision and the spaceship explodes. Meanwhile, Jack arrives and finds his friend lying lifeless on the floor. He motivates the buddies to use their superpower again to try to revive Captain Canine. This succeeds and it doesn't take long and a spaceship arrives from the "Inspiron" with the princess of the planet. She can free the buddies from the rings again and restore Captain Canine to his original form as Captain Megasis. Both would like to thank everyone who helped defeat Drex and together with the magic rings they start the journey home to their planet.

The next day, Jack publicly announced his new comic series, which he called "Super Buddies" and which he would like to produce with his new partner Bartleby Livingston.

criticism

Kino.de evaluated: This episode “about a quintet of speaking, eternally youthful Golden Retriever puppies works off half a dozen genre motifs, each of which would have been enough for a film of its own, and still has time for countless weird ones Minor characters like monkeys, thieves, incompetent police officers and talking pigs. Effective Disney fun for kids and those who remain children. "

Cinema.de , on the other hand, said: "Disney's lust and joyless sweetener attack."
