John Michael Higgins (born February 12, 1963 in Boston , Massachusetts ) is an American actor and voice actor .

Life

John Michael Higgins was born in Boston , Massachusetts , in February 1963 . He grew up under the name Mike Higgins and attended Walter Johnson High School in Bethesda , Maryland . He graduated Summa Cum Lauda from Amherst College in 1985 as a member of the Phi Beta Kappa community , where he directed the men's a cappella group The Zombyes .

Higgins made his film debut in 1989 in Vampire's Kiss with Nicolas Cage in the lead role. In the following years he played guest roles in various series such as Miami Vice , Cybill , Seinfeld and Party of Five . In 1997 he shot his second movie with Wag the Dog . In the following time he played the lawyer Wayne Jarvis in the series Arrested Development . He also had small roles in series such as u. a. CSI: Tracking down the culprits , Joey , Boston Legal and Ally McBeal .

He can also be seen in an introductory video for the Test Track attraction in Walt Disney Park Epcot near Orlando , Florida . Films that have made him famous include Evan Almighty (2007) alongside Steve Carell and Morgan Freeman , Parting With Obstacles (2006) alongside Vince Vaughn and Jennifer Aniston , Dick and Jane (2005) alongside Jim Carrey and Téa Leoni and Blade : Trinity (2004) with Wesley Snipes . He also starred in the comedies Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story (2007), The Yes Man (2008) and Bad Teacher (2011).

Since 2011 he has been part of the main cast of the sitcom Happily Divorced alongside Fran Drescher . He plays Fran's gay ex-husband, Peter Lovett . This character is based on Drescher's real-life gay ex-husband, Peter Marc Jacobson.

Private life

Higgins is married to actress Margaret Welsh. They have a daughter (* 2003) and a son (* 2006).
