action
The brothers Fred Claus and Nick (Santa) Claus grow up at the North Pole . Fred had promised to be the very best big brother, but it is becoming increasingly difficult for him, as his parents usually only compare him negatively to his younger brother Nick. As a result, he begins to hate his life and his parents. He didn't blame his brother because he only meant well and couldn't know how much it was bothering Fred. While Nick becomes a magnanimous and benevolent person, Fred becomes a light-footed cynic. Financially, he's just getting by. A new business idea should bring the long-awaited breakthrough, which of course does not work and he is even taken into police custody. He asks his brother Nick to release him with $ 5,000 bail and if possible put 50,000 on top. His brother wants to give him the money when Fred personally appears at the North Pole and helps with the production of the toys that are given away every year. Nick sends him an elf to bring Fred to him. With the Christmas sleigh it goes fast through the air, to Nick's realm. There is a lot of activity in the Christmas workshop and you are expecting the rationalization expert Clyde Northcutt there, who is supposed to check the efficiency of Santa's work . As a consequence, that could mean that Santa Claus headquarters would be relocated to the South Pole. For this purpose, a “three-fault system” should be used. Should three serious mistakes occur during the Christmas business, the fate of the idyllic Christmas city at the North Pole is sealed.
Fred is supposed to update the nice and naughty list first, the eternal Christmas music gets on his nerves and he puts on a hearty rock 'n' roll . All the elves happily dance with Fred instead of doing their job. For Northcutt, this lack of discipline on the part of the staff is the first mistake.
The next day, important documents disappeared, which is immediately counted as mistake number two. Northcutt sees the responsibility with Fred, but he is not aware of any guilt. As a punishment, he is reprimanded by Nick's bodyguard elves and his moody behavior is supposed to be treated by a therapist, which Nick strictly refuses. With anger, he rates all naughty children as good, which means that they too will get the gifts they want. This means that the production of the toys is lagging behind the plan and the brothers Nick and Fred get into an argument. As a result, Fred leaves the North Pole and Nick is dismissed from Northcutt because, in his opinion, the production delay is now the third and final mistake. But Fred thinks about what is really important and what makes Christmas gifts. He travels back to the North Pole and motivates all elves to give their best and to make as many toys as possible in the remaining ten hours. However, this means that not everything can be made that the children wrote on their wish lists, only very simple things that can be made quickly. Fred is also ready to stand in for his brother, who has become sick with grief over the whole situation. To his relief, he explains to Nick that there are no naughty children, but only disappointed in life, who are afraid or feel ignored and that you have to help them after all. Every child deserves a present for Christmas. That makes his brother think.
Fred tries to distribute all the presents on Christmas night in good time together with Oberelf Willie. When they are almost there, Northcutt almost manages to sabotage this, which he luckily fails because Nick speaks to his conscience. Because he remembers that as a child he didn’t bring Northcutt a gift that he longed for. Out of that old disappointment, Northcutt had tried to get revenge on Nick. When Northcutt receives this present from Nick 45 years later, he is very touched. Fred is back with the first ray of sunshine and all the children have received their presents. Nick is so proud of Fred that he is telling him for the first time that he's the very best big brother he could ever ask for.
Reviews
Katey Rich wrote on www.cinemablend.com that the film didn't add anything worth mentioning to the genre. He is so "calculated sentimental" that one perceives this as "almost cynical". Vaughn and Giamatti would work well together; Spacey plays "hilarious", the other talented actors like Kathy Bates are "wasted".
The lexicon of the international film judges: "Largely enjoyable, well-cast Christmas comedy with some funny ideas, the conflicts of which dissolve harmoniously into pleasure on the 'Festival of Love'."
The critics at Kino.de said, "The Santa Claus Brothers" is a "holiday plot designed and calculated on the drawing board that advertises charity and the power of forgiveness, but seems about as sincere as the sloppy special effects are convincing."
