Pitch Perfect is a 2012 American comedy film directed by Jason Moore . The film opened in US cinemas on September 28, 2012. The German theatrical release was December 20, 2012. The comedy is loosely based on Mickey Rapkin's non-fiction book Pitch Perfect: The Quest for Collegiate A Cappella Glory from 2008.

The title Pitch Perfect comes from the English adjective "pitch-perfect", striking the right note (pitch = pitch).

action

The plot revolves around the female a cappella group The Barden Bellas from the fictional Barden University . After most of the group's members graduate from college, the group's remaining members, Chloe and Aubrey, find themselves forced to recruit new members. They become aware of Beca, who has agreed with her father to attend college for at least a year . In return, she receives financial support for her desire to start a career as a music producer in LA.

Beca joins the Bards Bellas and quickly realizes that the talented group is putting too much emphasis on traditional elements instead of surprising the audience with interesting interludes. Any proposed change, however, bounces off the control-addicted Aubrey. In college, Beca meets Jesse, who joins the arch-rivals of the Bards Bellas - the Treblemakers . A friendly relationship quickly develops between the two, which almost ends in a kiss when they watch a movie together.

In the semifinals of a national a cappella competition, the group around Aubrey only achieved third place. Aubrey blames Beca for the failure, because Beca brought in unplanned vocal interludes during the performance that thwarted Aubrey's traditional arrangement. This then not only leaves the singing group, but distances herself from Jesse, who wanted to protect her from Aubrey.

Only her father can encourage Beca to reconcile with Bella's bards. In her attempt to apologize to the group for her behavior, she disrupts an argument between Aubrey and her a cappella group, causing Aubrey to understand her wrongdoing and giving Beca more leeway for her creative ideas. It was only by chance that the Bards Bellas got the opportunity to take part in the final of the championship. Thanks to an imaginative performance and a new visual appearance for the girls, the group members can win over the audience and referees. While the audience is cheering, Beca and Jesse can settle their argument and kiss.

Reviews

The film received mostly positive reviews. The critic of the New York Post gave it 3.5 out of 4 stars and praised the funny script in addition to the musical features. The Playlist awarded a B + and called Pitch Perfect an "all-round successful film".

The Metascore service Rotten Tomatoes found 81 percent positive votes, based on 137 reviews (as of August 2013)

Film starts and Moviemaze also rated the film positively:

"With Pitch Perfect, director Jason Moore brings a cheerful high school comedy to the screen that, thanks to excursions into unexpected areas of humor, should not only be a lot of fun for die-hard musical fans."

“That is probably what director Jason Moore thought and instead of conservative choir singing, he prefers to serve us a snotty coming-of-age story to which the entire YouTube generation can bow down. The feature film debutant often hits the right note, hits the keys hard in places and creates a worthy memorial to a still young myth. Above all, the work is just fun! "

- Moviemaze

The lexicon of international films judged more cautiously, with Prisma the film failed completely:

"High school musical film that enriches the conventional plot with a dose of crude humor that doesn't always ignite, but gives it a bulky charm."

“And again one of those neat American films in which actors who are far too old pretend to be young and pretend to discover love. For the most part, this is at best to make others ashamed of them. At the latest when the typical competitive element is added, it gets really embarrassing, especially since you think you've seen all of this before and after Glee on Tour - The 3D Film and the High School Musicals a hundred times with much better songs. Pitch Perfect is also a film that ingratiates itself among the young and that the world doesn't need. "

Sequels

In December 2012 it was announced that Skylar Astin and Rebel Wilson were meeting at Universal Studios to discuss a possible sequel. In April 2013, the second part for 2015 was announced. In Germany, Pitch Perfect 2 opened in cinemas on May 14, 2015. Pitch Perfect 3 was released in German cinemas on December 21, 2017 .
