Ben Platt (born September 24, 1993 in Los Angeles , California ) is an American actor and singer .
Life
Ben Platt was born into a Jewish family as the fourth of five children . His parents are the film, television and theater producer Marc E. Platt and his wife Julie Beren Platt. His brother Jonah Platt is also an actor. Platt is gay and came out at the age of 12.
Platt gained his first musical experience at an early age and was also active as an actor during his time in middle school and high school . Due to his theater experience, especially in the musical sector, he was brought into the main cast for the 2012 musical film Pitch Perfect . During this period, Platt was given a year off from school so that he could concentrate exclusively on film production. In the film he was used in an essential supporting role alongside Anna Kendrick , Skylar Astin , Anna Camp and Brittany Snow, among others . For his role as Benji Applebaum he was nominated the following year at the Teen Choice Awards 2013 for a Teen Choice Award in the category " Choice Movie Scene Stealer ", but could not stand up to Kellan Lutz , who won the award for his role in Breaking Dawn - Until (s) the End of the Night - Part 2 received, prevail. Right after the success with his film debut in Pitch Perfect Platt was in the Chicago cast of The Book of Mormon brought, where he was a sidekick of Nic Rouleau acted. In the role of Elder Arnold Cunningham , he played from the Chicago premiere of the play at the Broadway In Chicago- run Bank of America Theater in December 2012 until October 6, 2013, before a second US tour was planned for the musical. On the 2nd US tour, Nic Rouleau is replaced as Elder Price by David Larsen ; for Ben Platt's Elder Cunningham , AJ Holmes slips into the same role. Shortly afterwards, however, Holmes was also replaced; he was followed by Cody Jamison Strand . On October 21, 2013 it was announced that Rouleau and Platt are to be used together in the ongoing Broadway production in their ancestral roles. While Rouleau replaces Tony Award nominee Andrew Rannells , who is moving to Chicago as lead, Platt follows in the footsteps of Cody Jamison Strand, who previously played the role of socially awkward Elder Cunningham . Furthermore, Rouleau replaces Matt Doyle, who was also used as Elder Price in the play .
Since 2019 he has been the leading actor in the television series The Politician . He plays the role of a high school student aspiring to become president of the United States .
