Marc Platt (producer)

Marc E. Platt (* 1957 ) is an American film , television and theater producer .

Life

Platt graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1979. He later studied law at New York University and gained his first experience in theater production as an intern with Broadway producers Elizabeth McCann and Nelle Nugent . On the advice of McCann, he began his professional career as a lawyer specializing in entertainment law .

At the age of 25 he received an offer from the Los Angeles talent agency International Creative Management . He later switched to film production and initially worked for RKO Pictures and later for Orion Pictures . At 31, Platt was promoted to President of Production for Orion Pictures. During his time at Orion, Platt worked on successful films such as Dances with the Wolf (1990) and The Silence of the Lambs (1991). In 1992 he moved to Tri-Star . There he worked on the AIDS drama Philadelphia . In 1996 there was another change, this time to Universal Pictures . Four years later he left Universal and started his own production company, Marc Platt Productions . In 2001 he had a great success with one of his first projects, Naturally Blond . The comedy grossed over $ 140 million worldwide at a cost of $ 18 million and had several sequels, with Platt also producing.

Platt has also been producing the successful Broadway musical Wicked - The Witches of Oz since 2003 . The production of the thriller Drive earned him nominations for the British Academy Film Awards and the Independent Spirit Awards for Best Picture in 2012 .

He is married to Julie Beren Platt, whom he met while studying. The marriage resulted in two daughters and three sons. His sons Ben Platt and Jonah Platt work as actors.
