Andrew Scott Rannells (born August 23, 1978 in Omaha , Nebraska ) is an American actor and singer .

life and career

Andrew Rannells attended Creighton Preparatory School in Omaha. After graduating, he briefly studied at Marymount Manhattan College . He has Polish and Irish ancestry.

Rannells began his career as a voice actor . In 2006 he appeared in the musical Hairspray . He was also the singer in the musical Jersey Boys . His most famous musical, however, is The Book of Mormon , in which he played the Elder Price . The musical was written by Trey Parker , Matt Stone and the composer Robert Lopez . For his performance there he was nominated for a Tony Award . He left the theater in June 2012.

On TV, Rannells starred as a stripper in the movie Our Biggest Friend's Wedding . Between 2012 and 2017 he was seen in the recurring role of Elijah Krantz in the award-winning series Girls . From 2012 to 2013 he played in The New Normal a gay man who wants to become a father with his partner, played by Justin Bartha , with the help of a surrogate mother .

Rannells is in a relationship with actor Mike Doyle and lives in the East Village .
