Rivers Cuomo (born June 13, 1970 in New York ) is an American singer, guitarist and songwriter for the alternative rock band Weezer .
resume
Cuomo was born in New York on June 13, 1970 and raised in an ashram in Pomfret, Connecticut . Due to the ashram's relocation, his parents moved to nearby Storrs, Connecticut. Cuomo attended Edwin Oscar Smith High School, Santa Monica College, and Harvard College.
On February 14, 1992, he founded the band Weezer with Pat Wilson (who has accompanied him on previous projects), Matt Sharp and Jason Cropper. The band's name comes from Rivers childhood days, when he was nicknamed Weezer (which means something like "Knirps"). In 1993 they were signed by Geffen Records . The debut album Weezer (The Blue Album) was an instant hit. Due to the great success Cuomo interrupted his literature studies in 1995, but graduated successfully after the fifth Weezer album.
On June 18, 2006, Rivers married Kyoko Ito, whom he had known since 1997. At the wedding in Paradise Cove, Malibu, all previous Weezer members (except Mikey Welsh), as well as Justin Fisher and Rick Rubin, also appeared .
Living conditions
Rivers was born with a leg length difference of 44mm. He corrected this defect when he had enough money for it. Due to the operation, Rivers had to wear a leg brace every day for a long time, which held the artificially broken leg in place. Cuomo also grew up with divorced parents, which also inspired him to write his song "Say It Ain't So".
Rivers Cuomo has always been known as the uncommunicative, reserved brain of Weezer. He used songwriting as a medium of expression and often tells of intimate experiences (Pink Triangle) or fear (Say It Ain't So) in his lyrics. It was only with his discovery of the Vipassana meditation that Cuomo became a more balanced man, which is reflected above all in his fifth album "Make Believe", as the lyrics are increasingly more hopeful.
