Miranda Taylor Cosgrove (* 14. May 1993 in Los Angeles , California ) is an American actress , pop-rock - singer and voice actress . She is best known for her television roles as Megan Parker in Drake & Josh and Carly Shay in iCarly .

Life

When she was around three years old, Miranda Cosgrove was discovered by a talent scout in a restaurant. Initially, she was hired for commercials , including Burger King and McDonald’s , and participated in casting processes for various roles. In 2003 she made her breakthrough alongside Jack Black in School of Rock .

In 2003, she landed the role of Megan Parker in the Nickelodeon - sitcom Drake & Josh . From 2007 to 2012 she played the lead role as Carly Shay in the series iCarly , also from Nickelodeon. Cosgrove also made some guest appearances on other Nickelodeon series such as Zoey 101 and Unfabulous . She played Drake Bell's sister in both Drake & Josh and the comedy Your, Mine & Ours . In the fall of 2010, Cosgrove received a role on the Good Wife series . There she played a pop star named Sloan who was on trial for drunk driving.

With iCarly , their first single was released in December 2007 together with Drake Bell under the title Leave It All to Me . However, this was only available in the USA. In June 2008, the Columbia Records label released the iCarly soundtrack with four songs: Leave It All to Me , Stay My Baby , About You Now and Headphones On . About You Now made it to number 47 in the top 100 of the charts and is their most successful single to this day. This was followed by an expanded version of About You Now with two new songs, FYI and Party Girl . To promote the film Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs , Columbia Records released a single with Miranda Cosgrove called Raining Sunshine . The music video of the same name premiered in August 2009. In March 2010 her current album Sparks Fly was released .

In 2011, Miranda Cosgrove's debut tour Dancing Crazy Tour took place in numerous cities in North America. The tour began in Missouri , United States and ended in Ohio . On August 11, 2011, Cosgrove's tour bus was involved in a traffic accident in Vandalia , Illinois. Cosgrove broke an ankle, so that the other concerts had to be canceled. She had in 2013 made a cameo appearance in the music video Happy by Pharrell Williams and 2018 Happier by Marshmello .

In 2010, 2013 and 2017 she lent her voice to the role of Margo in the animated films I - Simply Despicable and its sequels I - Simply Despicable 2 and I - Simply Despicable 3 . In 2015 she played the lead role of Rose Halshford in the Canadian psychological thriller The Invaders . In 2016 she took on the lead role as Shea Moore in the short-lived comedy series Crowded . In 2017, she starred in the NBC pilot Spaced Out , which was discontinued as a series. In 2018 she was part of the cast of the CBS pilot History of Them , which was also discontinued.

Awards and nominations

Miranda Cosgrove won the 2004 Young Artist Award and the MTV Movie Award for her performance in School of Rock . ICarly also won the 2008 Nick Kids' Choice Award in the Favorite TV Series category, but Miranda Cosgrove did not win the Favorite Actor category in which she was nominated. In 2010 and 2011 iCarly again won the Nick Kids' Choice Award for “Favorite TV Series”.
