Jennette McCurdy
Jennette Michelle Faye McCurdy (* 26. June 1992 in Long Beach , California ) is an American actress and country pop - musician . She gained popularity through the role as Samantha 'Sam' Puckett in the television series iCarly . She then played the same role in Sam & Cat , an offshoot of the Victorious and iCarly series .
Life
She was born in Long Beach and raised with her family in Garden Grove . She has three older brothers. Her interest in acting was sparked after watching Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace .
On June 11, 2011, the Wall Street Journal published an article she wrote. In it, she describes her mother Debra's fight against breast cancer and how her family deals with this situation. Her mother died in September 2013 as a result of the disease.
In July 2013, McCurdy bought a two-story home in Studio City , Los Angeles for $ 905,000 . It is her first own house.
In March 2019, she wrote publicly about her eating disorders for the first time: From the age of 11, she suffered mainly from anorexia and bulimia for about 15 years , although her mother and the entertainment industry promoted this condition: She got more younger roles when they also appeared smaller and thinner. Her sister-in-law advised her to seek therapy when she lost a tooth as a result of her bulimia and passed out in the bathroom of friends. After several therapies, she has been on the right path since 2017 and has so far had her eating behavior under control. Your approach to the public on this topic should above all help other affected people.
Career
Film career
2000–2006: start of her career
McCurdy started acting when she was eight and had her first role on MADtv . Since that time she has had many guest appearances such as in CSI: Vegas , Malcolm in the middle , Will & Grace as well as Zoey 101 and many others.

In 2005 she was nominated for the Young Artist Award for “Best Performance in a TV Series” for her role as Hailey Campos in the TV series Strong Medicine: Two Doctors Like Fire and Ice . During this time she also recorded some commercials, for example Sprint and other commercials for safety when crossing a street.
2007-2014: iCarly, Sam & Cat, Nickelodeon
From 2007 to 2012 McCurdy starred alongside Miranda Cosgrove , Nathan Kress and Jerry Trainor in the Nickelodeon- produced television series iCarly . In the series, she plays the role of Sam Puckett , the rebellious best friend of Carly Shay (Cosgrove). In 2008 she was nominated for the Young Artist Award for her work in iCarly and for her work as Dory Sorenson in the television film The Last Day of Summer . In 2009 she was also nominated for the Teen Choice Awards for Favorite TV Sidekick . In the movie Fred: The Movie , McCurdy got the role of Bertha . In 2011 she won the US Kids' Choice Awards in the Favorite TV Sidekick category for her role in iCarly, as well as its Australian edition in the LOL Award category .
In 2012, following the iCarly production, Nickelodeon ordered a pilot episode for an iCarly - Victorious - spin-off entitled Sam & Cat . McCurdy takes up her role of Sam Puckett there , alongside Ariana Grande in her Victorious role as Cat Valentine . Because there was a disagreement between the two leading actresses behind the scenes, the series ended in July 2014 after the first season.
In August 2014 she published her first own web series What’s Next for Sarah? ( “What's next for Sarah?” ), Which is loosely based on personal experiences following the removal of Sam & Cat . The series is about actress Sarah Bronson, who is looking for a new direction after the end of her successful TV show and shortly afterwards her relationship. For a tragicomic effect, the numerous antagonists in this short series are heavily exaggerated.
On 20 October 2014 it was announced that they will be Thriller - Drama Series Between plays along the Canadian television City. The first season aired in May 2015.
2016 to date: script and direction
In 2016, the second season of Between and a special with McCurdy in the lead role ran. The broadcaster and Netflix never officially ended the series, but neither did they commission a new season.
"The town is lovely, the premise solid if overfamiliar, but the script lacks both depth and tension (big problem), and McCurdy is one of the few cast members who can act."
"The town is delightful, the introduction solid if not overly familiar, but the script lacks depth and tension (a big problem), and McCurdy is one of the few cast members who can actually act."
In 2017 McCurdy quit acting and began writing scripts for her own projects, which she also directs.
In 2018 she made her debut as a director with the short film Kenny , which was inspired by the events surrounding the death of her mother and produced by an exclusively female film crew. The film was featured in The Hollywood Reporter magazine. She then released three other short films, for which she wrote and directed the script: The Grave , in which two strangers meet at a grave, The McCurdys , in which she deals with personal experiences of her childhood, and Strong Independent Women , in which a mother cares for her daughter with eating disorders. On her website, she states that 90% of her acting work has been viewed with shame. She expressed her hope of moving from acting to writing and directing:
"I never got the chance to be cast in a project I was proud to be part of. Now I have a better chance of making things I'm proud of than getting cast in things I'm proud of. "
“I never had the chance to be recruited for a project that I could be proud to be a part of. Now I have a greater chance of doing things that I can be proud of than of being hired for things that I can be proud of. "
Once an active Twitter, Snapchat, Facebook and Instagram user and YouTube vlogger , she deleted all of her previous social media posts from 2008 to 2019 and also removed her videos, including her own music videos, from her YouTube channel. In 2019 she began performing her one-hour stage show "I'm Glad My Mom Died" in solo on various stages in Los Angeles and New York, but had to stop her show early when the COVID-19 pandemic reached the United States. Like the rest of the entertainment industry in the United States, McCurdy had to pause its current projects. About her personal experience of self-isolation, she released a song for the first time since her videos were deleted, in which she accompanied herself on a ukulele.
Music career
In June 2008, McCurdy's official website announced that she was working on her debut album. The first single So Close was released on May 10, 2009. Her second single Homeless Heart , a cover version by Amanda Stott , came out on May 19, 2009.
