Over There - Kommando Irak (Original title: Over There ) is a series about the third Gulf War (2003) and ran on the US television channel FX. The 13 episodes ran between July 27 and October 26, 2005. Despite many positive reviews, the broadcaster FX announced on November 1, 2005 that the series would not experience a second season due to falling ratings. All episodes of the series were released on March 21, 2006 in the USA and Canada and on May 1, 2006 in England on DVD. In Germany it was the Pay TV transmitter premiere , who also co-produced the series, on view from March 15 to May 31 of 2007.
content
In the TV series, the Iraq war is portrayed from the perspective of a unit of the 3rd US Infantry Division . In addition to the plot set in Iraq , there are also a few subplots at home that illustrate how the soldiers' fate in the war influences the lives of relatives at home and vice versa.
What is remarkable for an American television production is that it takes into account both the suffering of the American soldiers and the perspective of the Iraqi civilian population.
General
The title of the series alludes to the song "Over There" by George M. Cohan ( 1917 ), which is about US soldiers who served in the First World War . Incidentally, this song exists in a historical recording from 1918, sung by Enrico Caruso , one of the most important opera tenors (English / French).
The scenes that take place in Iraq were filmed in the California desert, the scenes at home in and around Los Angeles .
occupation
The series was set to music at Cinephon . Martin Schmitz wrote the dialogue books with Norman Matt and directed the dialogue.
