Not That Far Away (German Not so far away ) is a song by American country singer Jennette McCurdy , of 24 May 2010 on the radio and on June 1, 2010 as the download has been released. On July 10, 2010 he appeared on the EP of the same name. The song was written by Jennette McCurdy, Blair Daly and Rachel Protor and produced by Paul Worley .

Not That Far Away is a fast- paced song featuring mainly banjos and electric guitars , including steel guitars . In the text, the narrator describes the scenario of a young girl who dreams of becoming a country musician and therefore sets off for Nashville , Tennessee . She assures her mother that she is "not that far away" from her hometown in California.
McCurdy says that “This song really captures the last year of my life. I wrote and recorded my record in Nashville and followed my dream while I really missed my family and friends in Garden Grove, California . ”In a poll, the song was voted 30% as the debut single by fans ; The six titles of their planned EP Not That Far Away were up for vote, an excerpt from each of which was published as a basis for the decision.

Jim Malec of The 9513 gave the song a lowered thumb comparing it to something Carrie Underwood might possibly record. He believes McCurdy "is proving herself to be a generally capable singer," but her voice "lacks Underwood's flawless tonal quality, extraordinary vocal control, and incredible power."
Jim Kiest commented, “A perfectly believable, easily forgettable, country debut about chasing dreams… fans of your show may have thought of McCurdy as a bad girl counterpart to Taylor Swift; keep hoping, children, so far it has not happened. "
Music video
The music video, directed by Roman White , was filmed in Watertown, Tennessee and released on August 14, 2010 on Nickelodeon and CMT . In the video, McCurdy moves into a new home, furnishes it with furniture and hangs up pictures showing her with her mother. Then she takes her guitar and strolls through the city, going to a café where she performs the song at an open micro evening. Throughout the video, McCurdy can be seen talking on the phone and writing something in a diary, and she sings the song in different places.
Chart placement
"Not That Far Away" hit the US Billboard Country Songs chart in the week of July 10, 2010, and hit 58th place that same week; this was the song's best placement.
