Tim Conway ( 2007 )

Thomas Daniel "Tim" Conway (born December 15, 1933 in Willoughby , Ohio - † May 14, 2019 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American comedian and actor .

Life

Conway was discovered in the 1950s by Rose Marie , who arranged for him to audition for the Steve Allen Show . Steve Allen was so excited about Conway that he gave it his own spot. He finally became known to a wide audience from 1962 onwards through the sitcom McHale’s Navy , set in World War II , in which he played the role of the incompetent sailor Ensign Parker for four years. In the 1970s, Conway was next to Carol Burnett in the regular cast of the Carol Burnett Show , in which he demonstrated his comedic talent in skits. There he became known for making the crew laugh during the recording. The laughs on the recorded material were also broadcast when it was broadcast.

From the mid to late 1970s, Conway had some success in Walt Disney comedies, including as a gangster Amos in the two bread dumpling westerns alongside Don Knotts . The Walt Disney Company honored him for this by naming Conway a Disney Legend in 2004 . Conway became known on German television for his role in Dorf on Golf and as Ephraim Wanker , the father of Peggy Bundy , in A Terribly Nice Family . He also provided the voice for the retired superhero Blaubarschbube (English version: Barnacle Boy ) in the animated series SpongeBob SquarePants . Conway also voiced the character of the sniffer in most of the Air Buddies films, replacing Don Knotts from the first film. He was particularly admired for his ability to stray from scripts with spontaneously improvised character details and dialogue, and he won six Primetime Emmy Awards during his career , four of which were given for The Carol Burnett Show , including one for writing.

Conway died on May 14, 2019 in Los Angeles at the age of 85 of complications from cancer.

Others

Conway's series formats usually never lasted long on television (usually around 13 weeks). Therefore he had 13WKS ("13 Weeks") stamped on the license plate of his car in order to satirize it.
