Air Bud is a 1997 American children's film directed by Charles Martin Smith . The leading roles are cast with Michael Jeter , Kevin Zegers and Wendy Makkena . The film had a number of sequels.
The first film adaptation of the Air Bud series was presented by Walt Disney Pictures . The Robert Vince production was made in collaboration with Keystone Pictures.
action
After the death of his father, Josh Framm and his family move to Washington State. At the school there, it is difficult for him to make contact with other classmates; he is also reluctant to join the basketball team. But then the Golden Retriever Buddy runs up to him , who actually belongs to the alcoholic Snively. Josh discovers that Buddy has a great talent for playing basketball. The boy and the dog join the school team together in order to ultimately lead them to victory.

The film won the 1997 Golden Reel Award at the Genie Awards . He also received a Special Award in the Best Family Feature Film - Comedy category at the 1998 Young Artist Awards . Main actor Kevin Zegers was honored as "Best Actor".

Sequels
In 1998, the first sequel was staged with Air Bud 2 , also known as Air Bud 2 - Golden Receiver . Kevin Zegers played the main role again. In this film, instead of basketball, football takes center stage.
In 2000, Air Bud 3 - A dog for all balls was a second sequel. This film in the series was the first to be produced directly for the video market. The theme here is football.
With Air Bud 4 - With baseball it barks better (2002) and Air Bud 5 - Four paws strike (2003), two further sequels were created that were produced directly for the video and DVD market.
In 2006, the film Air Buddies - The Puppies Are Losing a spin-off film series came into being, which so far comprises eight parts: Snow Buddies - Adventure in Alaska (2008), Space Buddies - Mission in Space (2009), Santa Buddies - In Search of Santa Paw (2009), Spooky Buddies - The Curse of the Hallowuff Dog (2011) and Treasure Buddies - Treasure Snoopers in Egypt (2012) and Super Buddies (2013).
