Duncan Regehr (born October 5, 1952 in Lethbridge , Alberta ) is a Canadian actor and artist .

Life

Duncan Regehr is the son of a British mother and a German father from Russia . He was initially a figure skater and boxer in the Olympic form of the sport. A gifted painter since his youth, Regehr exhibited some of his works at the Stratford Festival in Ontario in 1974 . His works can now be found in the Jilin Collection , the Kunsthallen in Copenhagen , the Getty Museum and the Syllavethy Collection of Scotland .

In 1977 he began his film career in the Canadian television series The Newcomers . The first appearance in a movie role followed a year later in the short film The War Is Over . After that, he appeared only sporadically in movies, and his career was mainly in television roles. In 1980 he went to Hollywood . Regehr played his first major role in the two-part Goliath - Sensation after 40 years . He celebrated his international breakthrough in 1984 with the miniseries The Last Days of Pompeii based on the novel by Edward George Bulwer-Lytton . This was followed by the main role in The Errol-Flynn-Legende (1985) and a small but prominent supporting role in V - The extraterrestrial visitors come (1984/85). From 1990 to 1993 he played the title role in the television series Zorro - The Black Avenger in 88 episodes. He had guest roles in the series Spaceship Enterprise: The Next Century and Deep Space Nine, among others . In 1996 he won the American Vision Award of Distinction in the Arts , and in 2000 he was recognized by the Royal Canadian Academy of Art for Lifetime Achievement. In 2008 he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Victoria .
