Systematics
Class : Insects (Insecta)
Subclass : Flying insects (Pterygota)
Superordinate : New winged wing (Neoptera)
Order : Ghost horror (Phasmatodea)
Subordination : Verophasmatodea
Partial order : Areolatae
Scientific name
Areolatae
Redtenbacher , 1906

The Areolatae are a controversial suborder within the order of the ghost horror (Phasmatodea).

features

In the representatives of the areolatae there is a triangular depression, the area apicalis , on the distal end of the inner side of the middle and rear rails ( tibia ). One corner of the triangle is directed proximally . The other two corner points, the connection of which here the mostly isosceles triangles form the base , are directed towards the end of the tibia, i.e. in the direction of the tarsi and thus distally. The representatives of the anareolatae lack these triangular impressions . When the Verophasmatodea is subdivided into these two partial orders, it is assumed that this is an original feature. If this is not the case and all anareolatae are derived areolatae, this classification would be invalid.

Systematics

Nine families are assigned to the areolatae, which are divided into four superfamilies as follows:

Superfamily Aschiphasmatoidea Brunner von Wattenwyl , 1893

Superfamily Bacilloidea Brunner von Wattenwyl , 1893

Superfamily Phyllioidea Kevan , 1982

  • Phylliidae Brunner von Wattenwyl , 1893

Superfamily Pseudophasmatoidea Rehn, JAG , 1904
