Graham Poll

Graham Poll (born July 29, 1963 in Tring , Hertfordshire , England ) is a former English football referee .

Career

Poll has been a FIFA referee since 1996 and whistled his first international match in 1997 in the World Cup qualifier Azerbaijan against Finland .

In 2005 he was ranked 5th in the world rankings for referee of the year.

In 2006 he and 22 other referees were nominated for the soccer world championship in Germany . Before that, he already whistled at the 2000 European Championships in Belgium and the Netherlands , at the 2002 World Championships in Japan / South Korea and at the 2004 European Championships in Portugal .

Oddities

Poll caused a curiosity on June 22nd, 2006 when he accidentally sent Croatian Josip Šimunić off the field after the third yellow card in the match between Croatia and Australia at the 2006 World Cup . After this incident, Poll received heavy criticism, including a. by FIFA boss Sepp Blatter , so that the Englishman decided to end his international career.
