Tōru Kamikawa

Tōru Kamikawa ( Japanese 上 川 徹 , Kamikawa Tōru ; born June 8, 1963 in Kagoshima , Kagoshima Prefecture , Japan ) is a former Japanese professional football referee . He lives in Hiroshima .

In 1994 he directed his first game in the Japanese J. League . On January 1, 1998 , he was nominated FIFA referee and on November 30, he directed his first international match, Hong Kong versus Oman . It was used at the 2000 Asian Cup in Lebanon and at other FIFA events.

At the Soccer World Cup in Japan and South Korea in 2002, he was in charge of the preliminary round match between Ireland and Cameroon . This was his only use at this world championship.

On March 31, 2006 , he and 22 other referees were nominated for the 2006 World Cup in Germany , with his first appearance in the group game on June 9 of Group A between Poland and Ecuador . Kamikawa also led the game between England and Trinidad and Tobago as well as the 3rd place match between Germany and Portugal .

He is also the first professional referee to oversee a World Cup match .

Kamikawa is currently a member of the FIFA Referees Committee. a. appoints the referees of the World Cup matches.
