Craig Thomson

Craig Alexander Thomson (born June 20, 1972 ) is a Scottish football referee who has held this position since 1988. He is from Paisley , Renfrewshire .

Career

Thomson is an attorney specializing in construction and engineering law. He has been a referee in the Scottish Premier League since 2002 . His first game in this league was the encounter between FC St. Johnstone and Hibernian Edinburgh on May 12, 2002, which Hibernian won 1-0.

Thomson has been a FIFA referee since 2003. Its first international game for the FIFA was the 1: 4 defeat of Northern Ireland against Norway in Windsor Park , Belfast on 18 February 2004. In World Cup qualifying match between Faroe Islands and France on 8 September 2004, he referred Patrick Vieira of the field ; the French won 2-0.

In his home country, he directed the 2006 Scottish League Challenge Cup final between Ross County and Clyde FC at McDiarmid Park on November 12, which County won on penalties after extra time had ended 1-1.

He was nominated for the 2007 European Under-21 Football Championship in Holland . There he showed the Belgian Marouane Fellaini in the 18th minute a yellow-red card in the group match between Belgium and Israel on June 13 in the Abe Lenstra Stadium . Despite being sent off, Belgium won 1-0. Thereafter, Thomson was no longer used in the tournament.

At the 2008 European Championships in Switzerland and Austria, Thomson was the fourth official.

In 2009 he directed the Scottish Cup final between Glasgow Rangers and FC Falkirk . In the final of the Scottish League Cup 2010 between Glasgow Rangers and FC St. Mirren Thomson sent the two Rangers players Danny Wilson and Kevin Thomson off the field. Other games under his direction were the friendly between France and Spain on March 3, 2010, as well as some " Old Firms ".

Thomson was a referee at the 2012 European Championship and oversaw two games.
