Daniel "Danny" Wilson (born December 27, 1991 in Livingston ) is a Scottish football player on the position of central defender .

Club career

Career start at home

Wilson went through some youth leagues with the Glasgow Rangers and led the club's U-19 team as captain . In October 2009, Wilson was first used in the professional team. He ran in the quarterfinal match in the Scottish League Cup 2009/10 against Dundee United and played the full length of the match with a result of 3-1 for the Rangers. In the days that followed, he was also the Rangers' youngest Champions League debutant in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League, in an encounter against Unirea Urziceni and in a first division match against FC St. Mirren .

By the end of the season, the young central defender was used in a further 13 league games, in which he also scored his first compulsory professional goal. This he succeeded on March 27, 2010 in a game against Heart of Midlothian , when he met his team's 1-0 lead in the fifth minute of the game, paving the way for his team's 4-1 success. The week before he had won the first title with the professional team when he and the team met FC St. Mirren in the final of the Scottish League Cup. In the turbulent game, Wilson received the red card after 71 completed minutes when the score was 0-0 due to an emergency brake and was thus the second Rangers player to be sent off that evening ( Kevin Thomson , 53rd). Nevertheless, the team won the competition for the 26th time with a hit from Kenny Miller . In the championship, the Rangers finished the season as the sovereign leader of the table with an eleven point lead and thus won the 53rd championship in the club's history.

From promising talent to reserve player

After he was named “ Scottish PFA Young Player of the Year ” by the Scottish Players 'Association , the Professional Footballers' Association Scotland (PFA Scotland), due to his impressive achievements over the course of the season , and he also won the “ Scottish Football ” award Writers' Association Young Player of the Year , Wilson has been courted by several top international clubs. After 25 competitive appearances and one goal for the Rangers, he finally left the club for England in the summer of 2010 . On July 21, 2010, he signed a three-year contract with Liverpool FC dated two million pounds , which could potentially rise to five million pounds based on Wilson's stakes. In the winter break of 2011, Liverpool FC loaned Wilson to Blackpool FC until the end of the season . On November 22, 2012, Wilson was loaned to Bristol City for two months . After a mission he was awarded to Heart of Midlothian until the end of the season . For the 2013/14 season Wilson was firmly committed.

In June 2015, Wilson signed a three-year deal with the Glasgow Rangers . In January 2018, Wilson moved to Major League Soccer for the Colorado Rapids .

National team career

U-17 and U-19 national team

Wilson gained his first experience in a Scottish national team in the U-15 and U-16 teams and later in 2007 when he was appointed to the squad of the U-17 national team for the first time. He made his debut for the U-17 team on August 28, 2007 in a 3-1 defeat against his peers from Austria , when he led his team as captain and scored Scotland's only goal. Another three international appearances followed in a mini-tournament in September 2007; then ended Wilson's active time in the U-17 national team. In the following year he was ordered into the U-19 national team of Scotland and made his team debut on October 20, 2008 in the qualifying game for the U-19 European Football Championship 2009 against his colleagues from Azerbaijan . Seven more goalless missions, of which he was captain in three games, followed until October 2009, when Wilson made his last U-19 international for Scotland. In the end, the team failed in the elite round and missed the European Championship finals.

Rapid march through in the U-21 and senior national teams

In the summer of 2010 Wilson was in the squad of the U-21 national team for the first time , for which he made his debut on August 11, 2010 in a 1-1 draw against Sweden's U-21s . Another four international appearances followed by October 2010, in which he remained goalless. On November 11, 2010 he was called up to the Scottish senior team, where he was nominated for a friendly international match against the Faroe Islands by Craig Levein . In the game on November 16, 2010 he was used from the start and scored the 1-0 lead of his team in the 24th minute; the game ended 3-0. Wilson was replaced by Garry Kenneth after an hour .
