Kevin Strootman (born February 13, 1990 in Ridderkerk , Netherlands ) is a Dutch football player who is under contract with Olympique Marseille and plays for the national team of his country.

Career

Strootman already played as an F-youth at Sparta Rotterdam and went through all of the club's youth teams. His first league game for the Spartans made the midfielder on February 15, 2008, two days after his 18th birthday, in the Eredivisie ; the team lost 6-2 at AFC Ajax in Amsterdam , Strootman was substituted on in the second half of the game. In the following season , the young talent was part of the Rotterdam team, made 25 league games and scored two goals. In the 2009/10 season , the 19-year-old was again one of the best players, but could not prevent his team's relegation. Then he was active for another six months at Sparta in the Eerste Divisie , during which several top division clubs wanted to commit the person willing to change from his contract, which ran until 2012.

Ultimately, Strootman signed a contract with FC Utrecht until 2015 during the 2010/11 winter break . Here he made an impressive Eredivisie comeback in the 2-1 win at VVV Venlo on January 19 and especially in the 3-0 win over AFC Ajax four days later, in which he prepared two goals. At the end of the season , however, Utrecht was only ninth and missed an international competition. For the 2011/12 season Strootman moved to PSV in Eindhoven together with his teammate Dries Mertens .

National team

Appointed only a week after Strootmans return to the top flight Bondscoach Bert van Marwijk the U-21 national team for the first time in the preliminary squad of the senior national team , where he in his position in central midfield in Mark van Bommel , Rafael van der Vaart or Demy de Zeeuw met strong, established competitors. He made his Oranje debut against Austria on February 9, 2011 , when he came on for Theo Janssen with 20 minutes remaining . He made his first appearance in the starting line-up on June 4, 2011 on a trip to South America for the Elftal in the friendly against Brazil in Goiânia ; it was his third game in Orange . He scored his first goal on September 6, 2011 in a 2-0 win in the European Championship qualifier against Finland in Helsinki . So far, he has completed 11 international matches by May 26, 2012. On March 9, 2014, Strootman suffered a cruciate ligament and meniscus tear in his left knee in the Serie A game of AS Roma at SSC Napoli (0-1) . The midfielder was thus also out of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
