Septic Death was a hardcore band from Boise , Idaho, USA . Her extremely fast-paced style made her known in the scene and was a great influence on the later Grindcore scene as well as the hardcore sub-genres Thrashcore and Speedcore and the crossover scene.

Band history

Septic Death was founded in 1981 by Brian " Pushead " Schroeder, Paul Birnbaum, Mike Matlock and Jon Taylor and initially conceived as a fun band. All four members were active in their hometown's skater scene. Although all band members were equal, the main focus was on Pushead, who had already made a name for himself as a draftsman in the growing hardcore scene and from 1984 ran the Pusmort music label .

The band name (in German: “rotten death”) arose from an atheistic concept, according to which religions invented God so that humans do not have to be afraid of death. The band name represents the alternative, the putrid, ugly death.

Most of the publications came out through Pusmort Records. In 1986 the group disbanded.

Music genre

Septic Death were among the first hardcore punk bands in the United States and they used a very fast but also very technical style. The lyrics are mainly about fear and paranoia , but also about social problems.

reception

Although Pushead was well known in the scene, Septic Death was quite isolated by its origins and could hardly play concerts at the time of its existence. The records are sought-after rarities that are rarely reissued. Today Septic Death is considered to be one of the first, groundbreaking speedcore bands and a hardcore legend. The band is named as an influence by numerous groups of different genres, including Integrity , Darkthrone and Napalm Death .
