Duje Ćaleta-Car (born September 17, 1996 in Šibenik ) is a Croatian football player on the position of defender .
Career
society
Duje Ćaleta-Car spent his youth at HNK Šibenik , the club in his native town. In 2013 he moved to the Austrian regional league club FC Pasching , where he caught the attention of the FC Red Bull Salzburg scouts . In summer 2014 he moved to FC Liefering . There he was listed as a cooperation player . His good performances led to appointments in the first team squad. On August 23, 2014 he made his debut in the squad in the league game against SCR Altach , his first appearance in the starting XI he made on December 11, 2014 in the Europa League game against the Romanian club Astra Giurgiu .
In the championship game in Wiener Neustadt he also made his debut in the Bundesliga, where he replaced the suspended André Ramalho from the start. At the beginning of the 2015/16 season he was used regularly, as he replaced the injured national player Martin Hinteregger in central defense. Since the departure of Martin Hinteregger, he has been a regular player in the 2016/17 season. Also in the following season he was a regular player in central defense.
In July 2018 he moved to France to Olympique Marseille , where he received a contract that runs until June 2023.
National team
Ćaleta-Car went through various Croatian youth national teams. In October 2015 he was part of the senior national team for the first time . He was also in the extended Croatian squad for the 2016 European Championship in France . He finally made his international debut in a friendly against Brazil in June 2018 . After the game, it became known that he was in the Croatian squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
In Croatia's third group game on June 26th against Iceland , he was used for the first time at the World Cup for 90 minutes.
