Lynne Arriale

Lynne Arriale (* 29. May 1957 in Milwaukee , Wisconsin ) is an American jazz - pianist and university teacher.

Life

Lynne Arriale studied at the Conservatory of Music in Wisconsin and had a classical education; under the influence of the music of Keith Jarrett and Herbie Hancock , she finally found jazz. In 1991 she toured Japan with nine other pianists under the motto 100 Golden Fingers ; In 1993 she won the International Great American Jazz Piano Competition , which earned her a record deal with the DMP label. She became known in the early 1990s through her trio with bassist Jay Anderson and drummer Steve Davis. Starting with The Eyes Have It (1993), she and her trio recorded a number of albums, first for DMP, and later for the TCB and In & Out labels. In 1999 she appeared with her trio at the Montreux Jazz Festival , in 2000 she recorded the duo album You are Here with Wolfgang Lackerschmid . In 2002 she played the opening concert of the Tübingen Jazz & Classic Days . In 2005 she and her trio performed at the Festival Jazz Open in Stuttgart. In 2009 she recorded an album with Nuance , deviating from her previous trio concept and with George Mraz , drummer Anthony Pinciott and Randy Brecker own compositions and interpretations of songs by Sting , Thelonious Monk (I Mean You) and Dizzy Gillespie (A Night In Tunisia) and Tommy Wolf (Ballad Of The Sad Young Men). It can be heard completely unaccompanied on the 2013 album Solo . Lynne is Professor of Jazz Piano at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Florida .
