Geovani Faria da Silva (born April 6, 1964 in Vitória , Espírito Santo ), also called Geovani Silva or Geovani , is a former Brazilian football player.
Career
In the club
Geovani started his career at Desportiva Capixaba at the age of 16 in 1981 . He made his debut in the Campeonato Brasileiro de Futebol on January 18, 1981 in a 4-0 defeat by Botafogo FR . With Desportiva he won the championship of Espírito Santo - the Campeonato Capixaba in 1981. In 1983 he moved to CR Vasco da Gama , where he played alongside Romário and Roberto Dinamite . He made his debut for Vasco da Gama on March 30, 1983 in a 0-0 draw against Corinthians São Paulo . In Rio de Janeiro , Geovani won the Brazilian championship in 1989 and twice the city championship and state championship of Rio de Janeiro.
In 1989 he was selected by Luigi Corioni to Europe for FC Bologna in Serie A fetched. But in Bologna he could never really assert himself, which, according to his own statement, was due to the fact that he had problems with coach Luigi Maifredi . After his time in Bologna in 1990 he moved to Karlsruher SC in the Bundesliga . In Karlsruhe he made 17 appearances in the Bundesliga and scored three goals.
After a season in Karlsruhe and a total of three years in Europe, he went back to his native Brazil and played there for two years with his old club Vasco da Gama. In this he was less successful with the club than before and so he then went to Mexico to UANL Tigres . He spent two unsuccessful years in Tigres and then returned to Vasco da Gama. On November 30, 1995, he played his last game in the Brazilian league against EC Juventude . In total, he came to the Campeonato Brasileiro de Futebol on 136 games and 14 goals. In 1996 he finally withdrew from the club and played until 2002 in the lower Brazilian leagues, where he was able to win the championship of the state of Espírito Santo again in 1999 and 2000 .
In the national team
Geovani took part in the 1981 World Youth Championship at the age of seventeen . In 1983 he also took part in the junior soccer world championship and this time he was even the top scorer and best player of the tournament.
On May 2, 1985 he made his debut in the senior national team of Brazil in a 2-0 win in the friendly against Uruguay . This was followed by further appointments to the national team. In 1988 he won silver in Seoul with the Olympic selection, which he led as captain on the field, and in 1989 he won the Copa America with his home country , where he scored a goal during the tournament. On September 11, 1991, he played his last international match against Wales . He ran a total of 22 games for the Seleção and scored five goals.
