Jorge Martínez , full name Jorge Andrés Martínez Barrios , (born April 5, 1983 in Las Piedras ) is a Uruguayan football player . He is used as an attacking midfielder and as a striker.

Career start in Uruguay
Jorge Andrés "Malaka" Martínez began his career in the youth team of the Montevideo Wanderers . In 2000 he made his debut in the Primera División . For the Montevideo Wanderers he played 33 games in the 2001/02 season and scored two goals. In the following season, the offensive player was also part of the Wanderers' regular squad and scored seven goals. After he was no longer one of the regular players in the following three years, he left the club during the 2005/06 season and signed a contract with city rivals Nacional Montevideo . In his first season at Nacional, he won the Primera División Profesional de Uruguay , the Uruguayan championship, with the team . He stayed with the club for another year.
Change to Europe
In the summer of 2007 he moved to Catania Calcio in Italy . With the Sicilians he was able to establish himself with consistent performances in Serie A and scored eight league goals in his debut season for Catania. He was also one of the team's best attackers in the following two seasons and kept the team up with his goals. He played a total of 86 Serie A games for Catania Calcio and scored 22 goals.
On July 1, 2010 the Italian record champions Juventus announced Martínez 'commitment for twelve million euros. The offensive player signed a four-year contract. In the 2010/11 season he played 14 league games for Turin. However, he could not record a goal.
At the end of August 2011 it was awarded to the AC Cesena . There were 13 appearances (no goal) for Martínez in Serie A in the 2011/12 season. He played the first part of the 2012/13 season on loan from the Romanian club CFR Cluj . Since he was not used in the first half of the season, he returned to Juventus in January 2013.
On September 2, 2013, he moved on for a year on loan to Novara in the Serie B . Before that he had trained with Juventud in Uruguay for a few weeks . In the 2013/14 season, however, he did not play there. Only in the play-out game of Serie B on June 13, 2014 against Varese, he came to a brief assignment. He returned to Uruguay in August 2014 and joined first division club Juventud on a one-year loan. In the 2014/15 season he was used there eleven times (one goal). During the 2015/16 season he played six more top division games (no goal). In mid-2016, his contract with the Italians expired after six years. Martínez stayed with the Uruguayan club Juventud, which had lent him up to then. In the 2016 season he was used once (no goal) in the league. Subsequently (as of July 8, 2017) no further assignments have been recorded for him.
National team
Martínez belonged to the 2003 Uruguayan U-20 selection , which took part in the U-20 South American Championship 2003 in Uruguay. In the course of the tournament he came at least in the games against Ecuador (January 5, 2003), Peru (January 7, 2003, one goal), Brazil (January 9, 2003), Bolivia (January 13, 2003) and Argentina (16. January 2003) and hit the opposing goal once. In Uruguay's U-23 team, the Olympic selection, he completed three international games under coach Juan Ramón Carrasco , when he lost in the 3-0 game against Chile's selection on January 7, 2004, in the 1-1 draw on January 11 2004 against Brazil and in the 1: 2 defeat against Paraguay on January 15, 2004 in the pre-Olympic South American U-23 qualifier was used. He didn't score a goal.
Martínez made his debut on June 8, 2003 for the Uruguayan national soccer team . His last appearance for Celeste was on March 3, 2010. He has a total of 14 international matches (one goal). The attacker took part in the 2004 Copa America with Uruguay , where he played two games without a goal.
