Qualification for | U-17 soccer world championship |
The U-17 Football Africa Cup ( African U-17 Championship ) or Junior Africa Cup is a football tournament between the best teams in Africa for male football players under the age of 17. It takes place every two years and also serves as a qualifying tournament for the U-17 soccer world championship, with the best four teams qualifying for the World Cup.
Until 1993, the tournament served exclusively as a qualification for the U-16/17 World Cup and was played in the knockout system with a return game. A tournament winner was not determined. Since 1991, a qualifying round has been followed by a tournament of the eight best teams for the title of African U-17 Champion in a selected country.
