Copa Libertadores 1996

The 1996 Copa Libertadores was the 37th edition of the most important South American football competition for club teams. 21 teams took part, including the national champions of the CONMEBOL countries and the second. Defending champion Grêmio Porto Alegre completed the field of participants . The tournament began on February 13th and ended on June 26th, 1996 with the final second leg. The Argentine representative CA River Plate won the final against América de Cali and thus the Copa Libertadores for the second time .
