Career

societies

Ortega has been playing for the Argentine club River Plate since August 2006 , before that he had worked twice for the same club and for Valencia CF , Sampdoria Genoa , AC Parma , Fenerbahçe Istanbul and Newell's Old Boys . In the 2008/09 season he was loaned to the Argentine second division club Independiente Rivadavia .

The time at Fenerbahçe Istanbul marked a turning point in his career. He always had problems with the then German Fenerbahçe coach Werner Lorant . Werner Lorant left the Argentine in the most important games, such as B. in the Champions League qualification against Feyenoord Rotterdam , sit on the bench. Because of these disputes, among other things, Ortega decided to terminate the contract with the club early in 2003. Fenerbahçe then sued the attacking midfielder at FIFA for twenty million euros. Fenerbahçe was right, Ortega had to pay the fine and was also banned by FIFA for a year and a half. After his suspension, he made a successful new start in his career in Argentina with the clubs Newell's Old Boys and River Plate.

National team

Ortega played 87 international matches for the Argentine national soccer team and took part in the soccer world championships in 1994 , 1998 and 2002 .

Seven years after his last appearance in 2003, national coach Diego Maradona surprisingly nominated him on April 28, 2010 at the age of 36 for the game against Haiti on May 5, 2010.

Play style and position

Ortega played in his career mostly as Striker , but also as a striker and an attacking midfielder used.

Ortega is considered to be a very strong dribbler and technically outstanding player who can both score goals and skillfully stage teammates. His nickname "Burrito Bailador" (donkey with a talent for dancing) expresses his tricky style of play that is geared towards dribbling.
