Copa Campeones de America 1962

The Copa Campeones de América 1962 was the 3rd edition of the most important South American soccer competition for club teams. 10 teams took part, including 8 national champions from the previous year, defending champion Peñarol Montevideo from Uruguay and from Brazil the winner of the cup competition, the Taça Brasil , as no national championship has yet been held there. Only Venezuela did not have a representative at the start. The tournament began on February 7th and ended on August 30th, 1962 with the final second leg. Brazilian representative FC Santos won the final against the 1960 and 1961 winner , Peñarol Montevideo.

For the first time, the participants in the semifinals were determined in group matches. There were three groups of three, in which everyone competed against each other in the first and second leg. The first in the group qualified for the semi-finals, for which the defending champion Peñarol Montevideo was already seeded.
