Omar Caetano Otero (born November 9, 1938 - July 2, 2008 ) was a Uruguayan football player .

Club career

Caetano, born on November 8th or 9th, 1938, depending on the sources, began his club career at Club Canillitas del Uruguay . From 1961 he belonged to the Montevidean club Peñarol and was loyal to the club for 14 years. During this time he was able to celebrate a total of nine championships with his teammates. In 1961 and 1966 he was also involved in winning the respective Copa Libertadores and World Cup titles . In 1962 he was defeated with the Aurinegros in the playoff of the Copa Libertadores against FC Santos , where he initiated this defeat with an own goal. At the end of his career, he moved to Cosmos New York in the USA in 1975 .

National team

The midfielder called El Cacho was a member of the Uruguayan national soccer team , for which he completed a total of 29 international matches in the period from May 2, 1965 to August 10, 1969, in which he could not score. He took with Celeste at the 1966 FIFA World Cup and the World Cup tournament in 1970 in part. He also won the Copa America in 1967 with his home country .

Coaching

In the time before his death, he coached the teams of Peñarols of the 8th and 9th División.
