Juan Vicente Lezcano (born April 5, 1937 in Santísima Trinidad , Paraguay, † February 6, 2012 ) was a Paraguayan football player .

Player career

society

Defensive player Lezcano, called "el Mariscal", was the son of the Paraguayan national player Juan Félix Lezcano and brother of Claudio Lezcano, who also played in the national team . He was from 1954 to 1961 in the ranks of the Paraguayan club Olimpia Asunción . There he was Paraguayan champion five times in a row in 1956, 1957, 1958, 1959 and 1960. He then moved to Montevideo and was there from 1961 to 1967 the squad of the team playing in the Primera División Peñarols . There, too, he won the Uruguayan national championship five times in 1961, 1962, 1964, 1965 and 1967. In 1961 he won with his club also at that time still as Copa Campeones de América designated Copa Libertadores . This made him the first Paraguayan to win this trophy. In the previous year he had failed with his previous club due to his future employer, with Lezcano starting in the first leg of the final . In the 1961 finals , however, he was not used. Another title win in 1961 is the World Cup . Lezcano did not play these games. In 1962 he reached the finals of the Copa Campeones de América with his club again , in which the Uruguayan club ultimately had to hand over the trophy to the Brazilian representative FC Santos . Lezcano played in all three finals. Again in 1966, the Aurinegros made it to the Copa Libertadores finals and defeated River Plate from Buenos Aires there . Lezcano appeared in all three finals. That year, Peñarol also repeated the World Cup triumph. Lezcano also took part in the playoff of the title against Real Madrid . In 1968 and 1969 he played for Colón de Santa Fe in Argentina . In 1969 he returned for two seasons to Club Olimpia before ending his career in 1971 at his last career station, Ríver Plate.

Lezcano was also a member of Paraguay's senior team , for which he participated in the 1958 World Cup.
