Juan Víctor Joya , full name Juan Víctor Joya Cordero , (born February 24, 1934 in Lima , Peru, † March 29, 2007 in Lima) was a Peruvian football player .

Player career

society

Described as a powerful and fast player, Joya was in the ranks of the Peruvian club Alianza Lima from his debut in 1953 to 1959 . There he was Peruvian champion in 1954 and 1955 and, depending on the sources, Peruvian top scorer in 1957 or 1958 with 17 goals scored in 18 games. He then played briefly in 1960 for the Argentine club River Plate . From there he moved to Peñarol . With the Montevideans he was part of the squad of the team playing in the Primera División from 1961 to 1969 . Joya was wearing the jersey number 11 and was called "Negro el Once" in Uruguay. This name is probably due to the radio commentator Hebert Pinto . He was also known as "Dueño de la Olímpica" (owner of the Olímpica) because Joya, who had previously been used in Peru as a center forward, was set up by Roberto Scarone on the left attacking side and thus at the home games in front of the tribune there Tribuna Olímpica acted. He won a total of six national championship titles during his time with the Aurinegros . These were spread over the years 1961, 1962, 1964, 1965, 1967 and 1968. In 1961, he won with his club also at that time still as Copa Campeones de América designated Copa Libertadores . Joya was in the starting line-up in both finals . Another title win in 1961 is the victory in the World Cup , to which Joya contributed with one use each in both the return and the playoff. In 1962, Peñarol took part in the finals of the Copa Campeones de América , in which the Uruguayan club ultimately had to hand over the trophy to the Brazilian representative FC Santos . Joya also took part in the finals there. Again in 1966, the Aurinegros made it to the Copa Libertadores finals and defeated River Plate from Buenos Aires there . Joya also played these games and scored in the first leg to make it 2-0. That year, Peñarol also repeated the World Cup triumph. Joya also played a role in the play-off of the title against Real Madrid . In 1969 he and his club brought the Supercopa de Campeones Intercontinentales trophy to Uruguay. In total, the left winger played for the Montevideans 132 games in which he scored 56 goals. 216 games and 96 goals shows his entire career record. In the course of his career, Joya also played in his Peruvian homeland in 1970 for Juan Aurich and a stint at Concepción de Lima is recorded. Until 1974, Joya held other positions at amateur level at Sud América (1971), Cinco Esquinas de Pando (1972), Defensor de Paso de los Toros (1973), Atlante de Chicago (1974) and Deportivo Tagner de Chicago.

National team

Joya was also a member of the senior national team of Peru , for which he took part both in the 1957 South American Championship and in the next game of that tournament in 1959 . At the first-mentioned event in his Peruvian homeland, Joya only scored a goalless appearance, while at the tournament in Argentina he made six international matches and scored two goals. In total, he played nine times for Peru at international level and scored three international goals. He also played for the Celeste between 1962 and 1965 in a few friendly games.
