The Campeonato Sudamericano from 1957 was the 25th edition of the South American continental football championship and took place from March 7th to April 6th for the fifth time in Peru. Bolivia , Paraguay and Venezuela did not participate.
The tournament was played as before in the league system (everyone against everyone). If there was a tie in first place, a playoff was planned. All games were played in the Estadio Nacional in Lima. As in previous tournaments, some games were played one after the other as part of a double event on one day. For the second time, the Copa America had over a million viewers.
In 1957, Argentina won the South American football championship for the eleventh time, thereby further expanding its record.
