Javier "Nene" Ambrois (born May 9, 1932 in Cerrito de la Victoria , Montevideo , † June 25, 1975 ) was a Uruguayan football player .

Career

society

Ambrois, born in the Montevidean Barrio Cerrito de la Victoria , made his debut in the Uruguayan Primera División on November 19, 1950 in the Nacional Montevideo ranks in the game against Bella Vista , to which he had been a member since he was 16. He first played for this club during his career from 1950 to 1953. During this time, Ambrois, also known as Patesko , scored 17 goals in 49 games and won his first two Uruguayan championships in 1950 and 1952. In 1954 he was active in Brazil for Fluminense Rio de Janeiro when he was given there in exchange for goalkeeper Velhudo. From there he moved back to Nacional in 1955 and completed 45 games there by 1957 in which he scored 36 goals. He was in 1955 with 17 goals scored top scorer in the Uruguayan league and again won the Uruguayan championship title with his teammates. In the following two years the team repeated this success. Now his path led him to Argentina in 1958. There he played from his official debut on March 23, 1958 to his officially last game on November 22, 1959, initially for the Boca Juniors , where he scored 12 goals in 43 missions. Then he ran in 1960 in four games (no goal) for the CA Lanús . From 1961 to 1964 again active in the ranks of the Nacionals (42 games, 7 goals) and again winning the championship in 1963, in 1966 the Club Atlético Defensor was recorded as the last career station .

National team

The midfielder was a member of the Uruguayan national football team , with which he took part in the 1954 World Cup and the 1956 Copa America . At the World Cup, Uruguay took third place, and his team even won the latter tournament. A year later, he was appointed to the squad for the 1957 Copa America . Uruguay came third there. Ambrois scored a record in the game against Ecuador on March 7, 1957 in Lima, when he scored four goals in one encounter (he also failed with a penalty). This record was after he had already set it in the same tournament with four more goals in the encounter against Peru on March 23, 1957, only equalized on November 11, 2011 by Luis Suárez , when the same number in the World Cup qualifier against Chile succeeded in gates. At the Copa América 1957 he shared the title of top scorer with the Argentinian Humberto Maschio . Both had nine hits each on the credit side. Ambrois completed a total of 31 international matches for his home country in the period from March 23, 1952 to July 14, 1957, in which he scored 16 times in the opposing goal.
