Cerrito de la Victoria is a district ( barrio ) of the Uruguayan capital Montevideo .

location

It is located in the central north of the city, east of the Arroyo Miguelete . The district is surrounded by the Barrios Aires Puros (west), Casavalle (north), Las Acacias (north), Pérez Castellanos / Castro Castellanos (east), Mercado Modelo y Bolívar (south) and Brazo Oriental (southwest). The area of Cerrito de la Victoria is the municipality of D assigned.

history

During the sieges of Montevido (1811, 1812–1814 and 1843–1851), it was important to have a good view of the surroundings, which it offered in the small hill 72 meters high in the district. The name of the barrio can be traced back to the revolutionary victory against the Spanish troops in 1812.
