Prado - Nueva Savona is a district ( barrio ) of the Uruguayan capital Montevideo .

Location and geography

The quarter, made up of the Barrios Prado and Nueva Savona , is located in the northern part of the Montevideo department . It is surrounded by the Barrios La Teja (west), Belvedere (northwest), Paso de las Duranas (north), Aires Puros (east), Atahualpa (east), Reducto (south) and Capurro - Bella Vista (south). The district is bounded by Avenida Millán to the east and by Bulevar Artigas to the south . The area of Prado - Nueva Savona is the Municipalities municipality A and municipality C assigned.

There are currently 20,672 inhabitants there (as of 2005)

The quarter is characterized by its avenues and its partly upscale residential buildings built at the beginning of the 20th century. A large park stretches within the district, through which the Arroyo Miguelete runs. The Jardín Botánico Profesor Atilio Lombardo botanical garden and the Residencia Presidencial de Suárez y Reyes, the residence of the Presidents of Uruguay, are also located in the district . Other buildings to be emphasized are the church Iglesia de los Hermanos Carmelitas , the Castillo Soneira , the Casa Costemalle , the Casa Maya y Silva , the Casa quinta Eastman , the Casa quinta Alfonso Seré , the Edificio Salvo , the Hotel del Paso del Molino , the hotel del Prado and the Casa quinta Aurelio Berro , which has been classified as Monumento Histórico Nacional since 1999 and which is the seat of the Uruguay National Garden .

Prado also houses three football stadiums. These are the Parque José Nasazzi , the Parque Federico Saroldi and the Parque Alfredo V. Viera . This is where the clubs Bella Vista , River Plate Montevideo and the Montevideo Wanderers usually play their home games.
