Centro is a district ( barrio ) of the Uruguayan capital Montevideo .

It is in the south of the city. To the west of the Centro is the Ciudad Vieja , the old town of Montevideo. La Aguada connects to the north , while Cordón continues the urban area in the east . It is bordered to the south by the Barrio Sur district located there . With regard to the road course form in the north, the Rambla FDRoosevelt and Calle La Paz , in the East Calle Dr.J.Barrios Amorin and a small section of Constituyente , in the south the Calle Canelones and in the West Calle Andes , a short section of Avenida 18 de Julio and Calle Florida are the outer limits of the neighborhood. The area of the Barrio Centro is the municipality B assigned.

Central street of the Centro is the Avenida 18 de Julio , which here in the southern half of the Plaza Independencia off at the Plaza Fabini and Plaza Cagancha passes to the east. There are numerous shops and other service providers, but also cinemas and theaters, so that this part of the city forms the commercial center of Montevideo. In addition, part of Avenida Libertador runs diagonally through the Centro .
