La Aguada is a district ( barrio ) of the Uruguayan capital Montevideo .

location

It is close to the city center, north of the Barrios Centro and Cordón . To the west is the area of ​​the port of Montevideo , which is part of the Ciudad Vieja . In the east the barrio borders Villa Muñoz - Retiro , while to the north Reducto and Capurro - Bella Vista are located. history

The origin of the name, which dates back to the middle of the 18th century, lies in the various sources that existed there at that time, such as the Fuente de las Canarias or Pozos del Rey . Until the middle of the 19th century, La Aguada was a partly rural district. Nowadays, however, it is one of the most populous neighborhoods in Montevideo.
