Atahualpa is a district ( barrio ) of the Uruguayan capital Montevideo .

location

It is located in the north of the city on the left bank of the Arroyo Miguelete and, according to the Instituto Nacional de Estadística (INE), is framed by the districts of Prado - Nueva Savona (west), Aires Puros (north), Brazo Oriental (east), Figurita ( Southeast) and Reducto (south). The Avenida Luis Alberto de Herrera in the north, the Avenidas Millán and Burgues in the west and east, and the Bulevar Artigas in the south border the quarter. The area is Atahualpas the municipality C assigned.

history

The village of Atahualpa was founded on August 16, 1868 by the Sociedad Anónima Fomento Montevideano on the land of Estomba opposite the Capilla Jackson . President Lorenzo Batlle was the godfather of laying the foundation stone for the settlement .

origin of the name

The name Atahualpas can be traced back to the Inca ruler Atahualpa of the same name in what is now Peru .
