The 1955 season of the Primera División was the 52nd season (the 24th of the professional era) of the Uruguayan top division in men's football , the Primera División .

The Primera División consisted of ten clubs in the championship season of 1955, whose teams met twice in a total of 90 championship games. There were 18 game days. The championship won Nacional Montevideo as first in the table in front of Club Atlético Peñarol and Club Atlético Cerro as second and third in the season's final table . As bottom of the table River Plate rose from the Primera División to the Segunda División . The top scorer was Javier Ambrois with 17 goals .
