The 1969 season of the Primera División was the 66th season (38th of the professional era) of the Uruguayan top division in men's football , the Primera División .
The Primera División consisted of eleven clubs in the championship season of 1969, the teams of which met twice in the following 100 championship games from the 1st matchday on August 17, 1969. There were 252 goals. The championship won Nacional Montevideo as first in the table before the champions of the preseason Club Atlético Peñarol and the second division promoted Bella Vista as second and third of the season final table . The Danubio FC had to relegate to the Segunda División . Nacional and Peñarol qualified for the 1970 Copa Libertadores .
The top scorer was Luis Artime from the champions Nacional Montevideo with 24 goals .
In addition, there was a championship round that year consisting of the teams from Peñarol, River Plate, Nacional, Bella Vista, Sud América and Cerro, in which five games from only six clubs are listed. In the literature, 24 championship games between August 17, 1969 and December 27, 1969 are reported for Peñarol - insofar as contradicting one another.
