The 1966 season of the Primera División was the 63rd season (the 35th of the professional era) of the Uruguayan top division in men's football , the Primera División .

The Primera División consisted of ten clubs in the championship season of 1966, whose teams met twice in a total of 90 championship games. There were 18 game days. The championship won Nacional Montevideo as first in the table in front of Club Atlético Peñarol and Club Atlético Cerro as second and third in the season's final table . The fourth from bottom of the table Montevideo Wanderers rose from the Primera División to the Segunda División . Araquem de Melo was the top scorer with twelve goals .
