The 1944 season of the Primera División was the 41st season (the 13th of the professional era) of the Uruguayan top division in men's football , the Primera División .

The Primera División consisted of ten clubs in the championship season of 1944, whose teams met twice in a total of 90 championship games. There were 18 game days. The championship won the Club Atlético Peñarol . The "Aurinegros" prevailed in the two championship finals against Nacional Montevideo after the two clubs shared the lead in the final table with equal points. As bottom of the table Racing rose from the Primera División to the Segunda División . The top scorer was Atilio García with 21 goals .
