Roberto Porta (born June 7, 1913 in Jacinto Vera , Montevideo , Uruguay , † January 2, 1984 ) was a Uruguayan - Italian football player and coach .

Player career

Porta, born in Montevideo's Jacinto Vera neighborhood on Bolívar Street , was Abdón Porte's nephew . The offensive player began his sporting career at club level in 1925 in the youth team of Nacional . There he made his debut on November 24, 1928 in the friendly against Central in the first team. He scored his first goal for the first team on June 29, 1930 against the Rampla Juniors . In the same year he made his debut as a replacement for the sick Héctor Scarone in the Primera División . Then in 1931 his path took him to the neighboring country Argentina to Independiente . With the Argentines he ran in 26 games in the first year and scored ten goals. Until 1934 who was there under contract. On August 4, 1934, Porta left for Europe and moved to Italy to AS Ambrosiana , as Inter Milan called itself at the time. With the Italians he was runner-up and played in the seasons 1934/35 and 1935/36 a total of 53 games in Serie A , in which he scored twelve goals. In 1936 he later returned to Uruguay and from 1937 played again for Nacional. From his new debut on April 10, 1937 to the end of his career in 1947, he stayed with the Bolsos and was involved in winning six Uruguayan national championship titles (1939-1943 and 1946). At the end of his career as an active player, he had 310 games and 133 goals.

National team

The striker was a member of the Uruguayan national football team , for which he completed a total of 33 international matches from his debut on October 10, 1937 to his last appearance on August 15, 1945, according to the RSSSF , in which he scored 13 times in the opposing goal. At the South American Championships in 1939 and 1941 he was first Vice-South American Champion with the Celeste , in 1942 he won the title with his teammates, to which he contributed with five hits. He was also on the squad at the South American Championships in 1945 . He also has an international appearance for Italy .

At the 1974 World Cup , Porta coached the Uruguayan national team.
