Marcelino Pérez (born October 23, 1912 in Buenos Aires , Argentina ) was a Uruguayan football player .

Player career

society

Born in Argentina, the son of Spanish parents moved with his parents to the Uruguayan capital Montevideo three months after his birth . There he grew up in the Barrio Pocitos . Pérez initially played for SC Ariel at club level. Discovered by Héctor Scarone while auditioning, he first made it to the youth team of Nacional Montevideo in 1932 , where he was used as the left half . He quickly recommended himself to the professional team and was promoted to it. He was a member of the squad of the Máquina Blanca , so called in this era , in the Primera División until 1935 . In 1933 and 1934 his club won the Uruguayan championship. He then played from 1936 to 1937 for Vasco da Gama in Brazil. After two knee operations on the meniscus and one on the cruciate ligaments, he had to end his active career at the age of 27.

National team

Pérez was a member of the senior national team of Uruguay , for which he completed three internationals from his debut on December 14, 1933 in the 1-0 defeat against Argentina to his last appearance on January 27, 1935. He did not score an international goal. He was part of the Uruguayan squad at the South American Championship in 1935 , when Uruguay won the title. There he was used in the encounters with Chile and Argentina.

Coaching career

On March 29, 1947, he coached the Uruguayan national team for the first time as a coach in the 0-0 draw against Brazil in the Copa Río Branco . At the latest when Juan López made his debut as national coach on December 2 of that year , he was replaced in this role. In the same year he also trained River Plate. He also worked as a "trainer" at Club Atlético Defensor in his coaching career . He later devoted himself to sports journalism and wrote columns for the El Diario newspaper for many years .
