Ildo Maneiro , full name Ildo Enrique Maneiro Ghezzi , (born August 4, 1947 in Mercedes , Uruguay ) is a Uruguayan football coach and former football player.

Player career

Club career

The midfielder began his career in 1965 with Nacional Montevideo . There he played until his move to France to Olympique Lyon in 1973. During this time he won the Uruguayan championship with the Bolsos five times (1966, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972) . With his team he also reached the final of the Copa Libertadores 1969 and finally won this tournament in the game of 1971 . This was followed by the triumph at the World Cup that year. In 1972 the Copa Interamericana also got the upper hand. During his subsequent time in Lyon, he played with the French in the 1976 final of the Coupe de France , which his club lost 2-0 to Olympique Marseille . In 1976 he returned to Uruguay and joined arch-rivals Nacionals , Club Atlético Peñarol , for whom he played until 1979. Luciano Álvarez calls Maneiros entry into the squad of the Aurinegros as the year 1977. In the three following years he was an ideal complement to Fernando Morena and was captain of the team. His club won the championship title in 1978 and 1979. The team also decided the early 1978 Liguilla Pre-Libertadores of 1977 and that of 1978 in their favor, as well as the Liga Mayor 1978. In addition, a career station in Venezuela at Deportivo Lara dating from 1982 is reported.

National team

Maneiro already participated with the junior national team at the Junior South American Championship in 1967 . During the tournament he was used by coach Segundo González twice (one goal). From his debut on March 31, 1970 to his last use on September 16, 1979, he completed 33 international matches for the senior team of Uruguay, in which he scored three goals. During this time he was also appointed to the Uruguayan squad for the 1970 World Cup and took part in the 1979 Copa America .

Coaching career

Maneiro worked as a trainer for various club teams. His greatest success was winning the Uruguayan championship with Danubio FC in 1988, whose team he coached from 1988 to 1989. With that club he also reached the semifinals of the Copa Libertadores 1989 and thus Danubio's greatest success on the international stage to this day. From the beginning of September 1990 to the beginning of March 1991 he was responsible for the Real Zaragoza team in 24 league games . A second engagement at Danubio followed from 1992 to 1993. From his debut game on August 29, 1993 against Venezuela in the context of World Cup qualification up to and including the game against Brazil on September 19 of that year, he also coached the Uruguayan national soccer team . In 1995 and again in 1997 he was again the coach of Danubio FC. In the 2006/07 season Maneiro was at least May 2007 coach of Club Atlético Progreso . From September 2012 he worked again, this time as assistant coach at the side of Juan Ramón Carrascos , at his former club Danubio.
