General Viana (* in Palermo , Montevideo , † November 5 or November 6, 1958 in Florida ) was a Uruguayan football player .

Career

Midfielder Viana, who was used in the position of a right inner half , played at club level from 1935 to 1939 for Central in the Primera División . In that year, he became the first Uruguayan in professional football to join the Argentinian club Boca Juniors . There he made his debut on May 18, 1939. However, his official debut only took place in one game on July 30, 1939. In 1940 he was with the club from Buenos Aires on the side of Ernesto Lazzatti and Arico Suárez Argentine champion. He played his last competitive game there on November 3, 1940. In total, he was used in 36 games and scored two goals. In the period from January 2, 1940 to September 22, 1940, 16 completed friendlies (no goal) have been recorded for him. He finally left the club on February 12, 1941. In the same year he joined Club Atlético Atlanta . His transfer was part of the transfer compensation for the opposite change Lucho Sosa . By 1942, the statistics show 37 games with his participation in the club from the Barrio Villa Crespo . At the end of 1942 he returned to Uruguay and continued his career at Nacional Montevideo . At the "Bolsos" that year, however, he still played an active role in winning the Uruguayan championship that season at least when Clásico won 4-0 against Peñarol . In 1943 he won another championship title with the Montevideans.

National team

Viana was a member of the senior national team of Uruguay , for which he completed ten international matches between January 22, 1939 and his last appearance on July 18, 1945. He did not score an international goal. He was part of the Uruguayan squad at the South American Championships in 1939 and 1945 .

He finally died in November 1958 in Florida, Uruguay, when he suffered a heart attack during a game hosted by the Nacional men's team.
