The Club Atlético Atlanta , usually only briefly Atlanta called, is a 1904 established football club from the neighborhood Villa Crespo in the Argentine capital Buenos Aires .

1931 founded Atlanta together with 17 other clubs the professional game operation in Argentine football. The club was part of the newly created Argentina de Football League, which initially had to do without sanctions from FIFA. In 1934 the club merged with Argentinos Juniors to form Atlanta-Argentinos Juniors . The connection was broken after the 25th match day and the season was brought to an end by Argentinos. Atlanta was again approved for the 1935 season as an independent club to play in the first division.

As winners of the Copa Suecia , the club is run alongside CA River Plate by the association as champions of 1958.

Atlanta spent a total of 45 playing years in the first division between 1931 and 1984 . Since 1985, however, the club has primarily only played in the third division, the Primera B.

The club legend says that the club name comes from the US city of Atlanta , which was struck by an earthquake when it was founded and was therefore on everyone's lips. Atlanta is also called "Los Bohemios" or "El Bohemio" because the team played its home games in frequently changing venues of other clubs until their own stadium was completed in 1960.

Traditionally, there is a great rivalry with the Chacarita Juniors from a neighboring district. Over time, the All Boys also developed into special rivals.

Stadion

CA Atlanta played its home games in the club's own Estadio Don León Kolbovsky from 1960 . The stadium currently holds 34,000 spectators. From 2006 efforts were under way to replace the wooden stands of the stadium with concrete structures. In May 2008 the stadium was closed by the Bonarens city administration after spectator riots during a game against the All Boys .

Atlanta has meanwhile reverted to its Bohemian image and is playing its home games again in changing stadiums. This is often the Ciudad de Vicente López of the suburban CA Platense , but the Etcheverri by Ferro Carril Oeste was also frequently used.

On March 29, 2009, in front of 12,000 spectators, the redesigned Estadio Don León Kolbovsky was reopened in a game on the 32nd matchday against Deportivo Español in the Primera B Metropolitana . It should hold around 14,000 viewers these days. The club's headquarters are also located in the stadium.

Known players

National player Domingo Tarasconi began his career with the club in the early 1920s, as did Fernando Paternóster, who wore the blue and yellow jersey from 1921 to 1926. Luis Artime played for Atlanta between 1958 and 1962. Adolfo Pedernera was able to be loted to Atlanta for one season in 1947, but the season ended with the first relegation from the first division. Daniel Carnevali , Argentina goalkeeper at the 1974 World Cup , played for Atlanta in 1969 and 1984.
